Taal Restaurant & Bar, Cultural Cuisine Of India, San Bernardino

Taal Restaurant & Bar
Cultural Cusine of India
228 W Hospitality Lane
San Bernardino, CA 92408

Taal Restaurant is at the end of restaurant row on Hospitality Lane near the Soup Plantation. It occupies the space of the former Bamboo Garden Chinese Buffet Restaurant. There is a big banner outside advertising the buffet plus soda seven days a week at $7.99. At that kind of price it is hard to pass up at that price. The interier is nicely decorated, white table clothes and cloth napkins. We visited on a Sunday afternoon for a late lunch, not too many customers at this time of day. I do not like to go to a buffet restaurant when business is slow. The food has usually been sitting for some time and is either dried out or prone to contamination. Taal had a the buffet set up like the old Bamboo Garden on a much smaller scale. The restaurant seems very large for the amount of customers they were servicing. Some of the buffet items offered were:

Gulab Jamun - milkballs in Sweet Syrup
vegtable pokora - vegetables dipped in a batter and deep fried
basmati rice
chama masala - an Indian dish made up of cooked garbanzo beans and tomatoes.
dal makhml saag - split lentils with spinach
chicken tikka masala - chicken marinated in yogurt and spices and then served in a tomato cream sauce
goat curry
tandoori Chicken - chicken marinated in yogurt, lemon juice, and spices.
Rice Pudding
Salad

There were a few more items on the buffet. In my opinion the best part of the meal is the fresh Indian bread, naan. Taal offers either garlic naan or plain, we chose the plain. It was delicious, fresh, crispy flat bread with a light texture.

I am not any kind of authority on Indian cusine, have eaten it just a few times. I found the food on the buffet to be rather bland. I would like to experience spicy, exciting Indian food. It is possible Taal spices things up if ordering from the menu. As I have said no expert on Indian food, I could be mistaken about the food. Give Taal a try at $7.99 for the lunch buffet you can't go wrong. Taal also has a dinner sampler at $9.99. Next time I visit will be be for dinner, and will not rate the restaurant until I give them another chance.
