Maria's is a small hole in the wall cafe in between Rite Aide and Stater Bros at Cooley Plaza. It has about 12 tables inside and one outside. They open at 9:00am on Saturday, if your not there by 9:45 you will have a hard time finding a seat. The service is slow but friendly. hope your not in a hurry when you visit or you will be disappointed. The decor is basic Formica tables, beer decorations on the wall with Ranchera music playing in the background.
Maria's serves warm fresh chips with two kinds of homemade salsa, with all the refills you want. One of the salsas is unique. It is made of cabbage, chili, cilantro, tomato and a spicy sauce. This salsa has a fabulous spicy crunch. It is not too hot for this gabaucho's taste. The other salsa is more traditional, fresh tomato salsa with red chili, onion and chili. The food is all homemade, this is one of the few restaurants that serve a good homemade tamale. The portions are big and the prices are moderate. The sauces they use for the enchiladas, burritos, and other dishes are great. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the valley. It is a personal choice, I am sure there are similar small family restaurants in the area. If you know of any please tell me, I would love to try them. In the meantime I am giving Maria's a big thumbs up. They are closed on Sundays and accept most credit cards.
